Solstice Coffee
Solstice started as a simple idea that would probably never come to life. We all have one of those — the business ideas you daydream about and just know could be a huge success. I’ve had dozens of those over the past few years, but Solstice Coffee Cart was the only one that stuck. And so, after months of deliberation, I finally decided why not go for it?
My name is Liza, and I’m passionate about creating community and having genuine moments of human connection, which I think is easiest over a cup of coffee. I don’t have everything figured out (far from it), but I’m learning as I go. My hope is that by sharing my journey, along with the resources I’m discovering, you’ll feel inspired to take that first step toward starting something of your own. I’d love for you to follow along on this crazy little journey!
Building
The Coffee Cart
I built Solstice Coffee Cart myself in my parents’ backyard workshop. I had some woodworking experience from rebuilding a vintage camper the year before (with the help of my amazing dad), so I figured a coffee cart couldn’t be too hard!
I watched a few youtube videos, drew up some plans, and pretty much made it all up as I went. Since I was working full-time during this build it took me weeks to finally come close to finishing. Near the end of the build, I found out that I would be moving from my hometown in North Carolina to Austin, Texas! While I was super excited about the move, I had to make lots of last-minute changes to my design in order to pass a health inspection with the new Austin requirements.
After failing the health inspection the first time (due to a technical error, I didn’t give up until I passed on the second go. If you are building your own coffee cart and have any questions or want a second opinion on anything, feel free to book a consultation below!
